A recording of strong north winds gusting through a neighborhood. You'll hear leaves ratttling, the flapping of a big tarp, dogs in the background far away, and, one of my favorites, wind chimes. The jingling wind chimes really get going towards the end of the recording. Occassionally a loud car drives by. I sat my handy zoom h4n recorder on my front porch for this one and used the internal microphones with record volume at 80. .

There is no compression or eq applied, and the file has a high dynamic range, so for many applications you may need to use some dynamics processing to reduce the dynamic range. This very happy bird-song was recorded in late winter/very early spring of 2012. It was a cold, partly sunny morning after a cold night, yet this red male cardinal was singing proud and loud. Recorded in a small town, with some traffic sounds in the back. Also, if you listen close enough you will hear some starlings in the background with their waking up chorus. Recorded using the handy/zoom h4n recorder and a samson c0-2 microphone mounted inside my home-built parabolic reflector.

Ocean waves recorded from between two rocks. Recorded on a zoom h4 with the mics covered in zeppelin fur at 44100 hz 24-bit. There's some slight wind noise that can be filtered from 150hz downward. This is part of a series of recordings for an ambient music project i'm working on. There are some excellent ocean recordings on freesound if you're looking for a more traditional ocean sound, but my intent with these clips was to try to capture some natural phase-shifting by placing the h4 in cracks and crevices for a more hollow, "closed-in" sound.

Most of this recording is of insects in a special field of native wildflowers at a dog-park on south mountain reservation in new jersey. Near the beginning of the recording, you can hear, in the distance, a dog at the dog park yelping in pain very loudly, perhaps after receiving a bite from another dog. The rest of the recording is pure ambience, except for a plane (newark airport isn't far off). ---two primo em172 capsules -> zoom h1.

I recorded a thunderstorm with my samsung galaxy m20 out of my bathroom for 10 minutes. There is a corrugated plastic roof, which gives the rain a nice, but also a tinny sound. That's why highlighted the bass sounds and reduced the high noises for a better experiance. I also looped it, so it is 30 minutes long with fade-in and fade-out. Enjoy!.

Besides being an inspiration since man first explored her, the ancient mississippi river is also a highway for many coal-carrying barges. For this recording my zoom h4n was on the soft, powdery sandy bank about 60 feet from the river…you hear the gentle, but powerful thrumming of the giant diesel engines as a huge, 200 foot barge passes by. Some notable natural sounds are a very clear red-wing blackbird at 20 seconds in, and again at one mine in and again at one-minute 13 seconds into it. You hear a wonderful, clear splash at 27 seconds into as well. Recording made around 4pm on a warm -- 80 degrees -- june day. Close your eyes, dig into the powdery, soft sand of the mississippi river bank and float away on a warm summer day.

Among the birds that you hear, juncoes, and the beautiful little white-crowned sparrow -- the white-crown's song -- towards the end of this recording - is more melodic that his neighbors. Recorded on 20. 05. 2020 on schneealpe in styria, austria. Its funny - and a bit scary - that one can see the exact crevice the recording took place from a satellite. There was a bit of snow left from winter but rapidly melting. Drops fall from 30 cm to the rock below in different rhythms. Recorded with 2 km184 ab ~40cm apart into sounddevices 744. Unfortunately i had no proper windscreen and so there is quite some rumble up to 120hz. The rumble can be filtered out easily, but i left the recording as is (i normalized and converted from 96k to 48k in audacity).
